Piano Free Download: The Ultimate Resource for Piano Players of All Levels
This is an amazing piano that didn't blow me away on first listen but im slowly starting to like it more and more. Its very intimate, warm and characterful. The GUI is amazing with mic blending options, release triggers and fx. Also, even though its a felt piano maybe its only lightly felted? im not sure but to me it resembles a normal piano more than a felt which i actually really like because i usually find non felt libraries too bright and lacking in character. Im gonna use this one soon and see i how feel about it next to fracture sounds woodchester piano which is a paid library but is currently my favorite piano library ive ever played
Hammersmith Free features a simple effects page, with a 4-band EQ to shape your piano sound. The Space Reverb module features Soniccouture's custom impulse library built up over many years and recording sessions.

You can dramatically change the way a sampled piano feels by adjusting the velocity response. Adjust the curve to concave, and the softer samples will be emphasised, tweak it more convex and the sound becomes much harder.
Hammersmith was recorded using a rare Steinway Model D with a self-play MIDI system fitted. This meant we could get extremely, accurate reliable velocity samples from it, and we didn't have to use a player. No coughs, no mistakes, no breaks. The piano sat on it's own in a room for 5 days.. playing itself.
There are hundreds of songs available for you to choose from. Click the songs button on the piano. Select a song, click the 'activate keyboard control' button on the piano then type the sequence of letters (song) you selected. You should be able to play bits of Beethoven in minutes.
ButtonBeats Virtual Piano Black is a cool Flash app that simulates a piano keyboard on your desktop. You can play it with your mouse or with optional keyboard controls. By tapping out notes in a numbered sequence, even total beginners can play simple tunes like \"Happy Birthday\" and \"Jingle Bells\" to more complex melodies such as those by Mozart, Bach, and the Beatles.
Virtual Piano's interface does indeed look like a real piano keyboard, albeit a reduced one, with attractive highlights on the black keys, which are functional. That was a good sign since we've seen many similar programs in which the black keys were strictly for show. The controls are minimal: Fullscreen, Activate Keyboard Control, four Sounds options, and a Songs button that opens a drop-down list containing many tunes you can tap out on the keys when the keyboard controls are activated. Virtual Piano can also record your performances, and a red Recording message appears when it's doing so. You can play back your recordings via the Control menu, which includes a Loop feature. Clicking a question mark icon toggles the key symbols on and off. When it's activated, Virtual Piano displays the corresponding PC key symbol on the piano keyboard, with letters for white keys and numbers and symbols for black keys. The sound quality is very good indeed; in fact, too good for our test system's built-in audio chip. The realistic dynamic range and sustained tones frequently exceeded the tiny op-amp's capabilities, resulting in audible distortion, especially when using high-quality headphones. Most musically inclined users will have a better sound card or external speaker system, which will do a better job of reproducing challenging piano tones as well as yield an even more realistic piano tone.

Best of all, Virtual Piano Black is totally fun. Clicking Songs pins open the songs menu just above the keys. We merely had to select a tune, activate the computer keyboard symbols on the piano keys, and start tapping away. As the ButtonBeats documentation states, you can be playing Beethoven in minutes, even with no musical experience at all. This is the baby grand of piano sims.

That said, getting a high-quality piano sound from your laptop for free can sometimes be a tricky proposition. Some digital audio workstations (DAWs) such as Ableton Live and Logic Pro X do come pre-loaded with very serviceable piano sounds. These virtual instruments are great for practicing and getting ideas down, but played straight out of the box, they tend to lack the unique character you want to bring to your recordings.
There are two main methods that plugins use to reproduce a piano sound: sampling and modeling. Sample-based piano instruments rely on recordings of a real-life piano, which are then played back using the keys on your MIDI controller. Model-based piano plugins are more akin to digital synthesizers: A sound engine recreates the sounds of a piano, simulating what the keys would sound like when struck in real life.
Spitfire LABS includes multiple different piano instruments for different scenarios. Soft Piano, which features felt-covered piano hammers for a more muted sound, is great for contemplative tracks, while Piano Pads and Modular Piano are perfect for atmospheres and soundtrack work. There are also gorgeous e-piano instruments (Wurli, Electric Piano) up for grabs, too.
Designed as a light-weight sketching piano, the VS Upright No. 1 is a clean sampling of an upright piano, the standard of homes, small clubs and studios around the world. With a broad dynamic range and a bright, clear tone, the upright can still display a soft side when needed.
*NEW: Due to increasing obsolescence/bugs of the VSTi/AU version, we have assembled this SFZ version with freshly re-cut samples, now including release samples! To save space, it uses lossless .flac format, reducing size to under 50 MB! By far the best version available; requires that you install either Sforzando (Win/MacOS) or Sfizz (Linux) to use (both are free!).
In the basement of a Berklee College of Music dorm, there lives a few lonely Yamaha upright pianos in small practice rooms. These rooms were often quiet, and, being a welcome solace to the stresses of pursuing a career in music, became a welcome spot to improvise in peace.
One day in 2014 I decided to bring along a few mics and try sampling one of the pianos, as I had at the time not yet attempted to sample a piano. I picked an easy set of parameters, just 20 minutes worth of material, and this test is what became VS Upright No. 1
The advantage is, if any one sampler software becomes obsolete or buggy, there are always others which can be used instead. Also, SFZ is an open format; you can freely edit the .sfz files in any text editor without much experience needed.
The tone, timbre and depth of a well-tempered acoustic piano has perhaps the widest expressive range of any instrument this side of a complete orchestra. Encapsulating the magic in digital audio samples, combined with a compelling way to play back these samples with grace and subtlety is something of a holy grail for plugin developers and VST users alike.
Oh, and you want that in a FREE VST? Is that even possible in a you-get-what-you-pay-for world? A flip through listings of digital performance pianos reveals prices topping $5,000 and if you want to fork out for a new Steinway concert grand, expect to part with about $150,000.
First, Keyzone Classic covers the gamut, albeit in a simple and straightforward manner. The Steinway Grand Piano patch competes with expensive piano plugins and even the onboard sounds of some hardware digital pianos. If you record lots of solo piano, this may be the one.
